BPT Elite Brasília – Brazilians Lead Home Party to Victory

Brazil’s beach volleyball dominance on home soil continued in spectacular fashion as the nation secured both gold medals at the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Elite16 event in Brasília on Sunday, extending an impressive winning streak in domestic tournaments.

Double Gold Celebration

Evandro Gonçalves/Arthur Lanci and Eduarda ‘Duda’ Lisboa/Ana Patrícia Ramos topped their respective podiums at the Parque da Cidade venue, marking the fifth consecutive tournament on Brazilian sand that has ended with the host nation claiming gold.

Men’s Competition: Olympic Dreams Realized

Evandro and Arthur capped a momentous day with a thrilling comeback victory over Dutch pair Steven van de Velde and Matthew Immers, battling back from a set down to win 2-1 (17-21, 23-21, 15-9) in front of an ecstatic home crowd.

The gold medal match was just part of what made the day unforgettable for the Brazilian duo. Earlier, after defeating compatriots Andre Loyola and George Wanderley in the semifinals, they received confirmation from the Brazilian Volleyball Federation that they would represent Brazil at the Paris 2024 Olympics, provided the country secures two qualification spots.

“I can’t explain what I feel now,” an emotional Arthur shared after the match. “This is undoubtedly the best day of my life. We love playing in Brazil, it always hits us differently, and the fans in Brasília were amazing the entire week. I still can’t believe everything that happened today.”

The victory marks the third Beach Pro Tour title for Evandro and Arthur since partnering in 2023, with all three triumphs coming on home soil – they previously won at the Recife Challenge in March 2024 and the Saquarema Challenge in 2023.

Brazil’s medal haul in the men’s competition was further enhanced when Andre and George secured bronze with a come-from-behind 2-1 (17-21, 21-17, 15-12) victory over Germany’s Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler.

Women’s Final: World #1 Pair Dominates

In the women’s competition, FIVB World Ranking leaders Duda and Ana Patrícia maintained their perfect record in Brasília, sweeping past world #2 Americans Taryn Kloth and Kristen Nuss in straight sets, 2-1 (21-17, 21-14).

The victory marked their third Beach Pro Tour title on home sand, adding to previous Elite16 triumphs in Uberlândia (2022) and João Pessoa (2023).

Ana Patrícia delivered an inspiring performance under difficult personal circumstances, learning of her uncle’s passing after the semifinal.

“The fans made a big difference for us this week and I’d like to thank each one of them,” she said. “I heard about the passing of my uncle after the semifinal and it was really hard to focus on the final knowing that I’m away when they need me. But the fans pushed me back to the match and this was one of the most amazing feelings I ever had on a volleyball court.”

Swiss Qualifiers Make History

The women’s bronze medal match saw Swiss qualifiers Esmée Böbner and Zoé Vergé-Dépré cap off a breakthrough tournament with their first-ever Elite16 medal, defeating Dutch Olympians Raisa Schoon and Katja Stam in three sets (21-15, 13-21, 15-9).

Looking Ahead

The Beach Pro Tour circuit continues its journey with the next Elite16 event scheduled for Espinho, Portugal, from May 22-26, as teams continue their push for Olympic qualification and ranking points.

For now, Brazil celebrates another perfect weekend on home sand, as their beach volleyball powerhouse status remains firmly intact heading toward the Paris Olympics.
