Ahman and Hellvig back up to number two in World Ranking
Plavins and Fokerots Reach Team’s High Seventh Place
The Ostrava men’s final between Ahman and Hellvig and Mol and Sorum
After winning the Ostrava Elite on the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour last week, reigning Olympic champions David Ahman and Jonatan Hellvig climbed back up to the number two spot in the men’s FIVB Beach Volleyball World Ranking. No changes in the women’s top five occurred as the charts received their weekly update on Monday.
Men’s World Ranking Update
Ahman and Hellvig\s absence from the top two in the ranking lasted for only a week. Last week they dropped from number two to number four. This week they surged right back up to number two. Still short on a full set of eight qualifying tournaments, the Swedish jump-setters pocketed the entire 1,200 points that came with their Ostrava Elite gold and improved to a total of 7,220 points from seven tournaments played. They overtook Argentina’s Nicolas Capogrosso and Tomas Capogrosso and Netherlands’ Stefan Boermans and Yorick de Groot, pushing them down to third and fourth, respectively, but are still 1,580 points short of catching up with leaders Anders Mol and Christian Sorum.

The Norwegians net-gained only 200 of the 1,100 points from their Ostrava silver, as their ninth best result of 900 points no longer counts, but on a total of 8,800 points, they are still enjoying the top of the World Ranking with a wide gap below them.
Reigning world champions Ondrej Perusic and David Schweiner celebrated bronze at home in Ostrava. At the same time, their points from last year’s Stare Jablonki Challenge gold expired, so the Czech team gained only two positions up to number 26 on 3,560 points, but from only five qualifying tournaments. Polish Olympians Michal Bryl and Bartosz Losiak, who finished fourth in Ostrava, jumped six spots up to return among the top 10, in position nine.
Meanwhile, reigning European champions Martins Plavins and Kristians Fokerots of Latvia, who reached the quarterfinals in Czechia last week, climbed to their highest ever position in the World Ranking as a team. On a new total of 5,480 points, they ascended two spots to number seven.

The fresh points from Ostrava and the expiration of the 2024 Stare Jablonki points did not prompt any changes in the composition of the top 10 in the women’s World Ranking. In fact, the order of the top five teams remained untouched, with Ostrava winners Thamela Coradello and Victoria Lopes consolidating their position as the world’s number one duo on a total of 7,560 points, 640 clear of second-placed Terese Cannon and Megan Kraft of the United States, who made it to the quarterfinals in Czechia last week.
Another 380 points below, Germany’s Svenja Muller and Cinja Tillmann are in third place, followed by Austria’s Dorina Klinger and Ronja Klinger, who finished fourth in Ostrava, and Latvia’s Tina Graudina and Anastasija Samoilova.
The pairing of Swiss sisters Anouk Verge-Depre and Zoe Verge-Depre celebrated their first Elite-level podium together, snatching bronze in Ostrava. This helped them leap 53 spots up the chart, from number 92 all the way to number 39 on a total of 2,592 points from five qualifying tournaments played.
