AVP 2024 Schedule Released, New League Details
The release of the 2024 AVP schedule brings a blend of the familiar, some notable changes, and the introduction of a groundbreaking new beach volleyball league.

Highlighting the summer calendar are three marquee events known as the Heritage Series, reminiscent of the previous Gold Series tournaments. Scheduled for Huntington Beach (May 17-19), Manhattan Beach (August 16-18), and Chicago (August 30-September 1), these events promise to deliver the excitement and prestige synonymous with AVP competitions.
The Contender Series will see 24 teams competing in a double-elimination format, providing an intense and competitive environment for players vying for a chance to advance to the Heritage events.
One of the most notable aspects of the 2024 schedule is the absence of conflicts with major Volleyball World events, ensuring a full field at each tournament. While Denver and Waupaca overlap with the Gstaad and Vienna Elite16s, respectively, the teams participating in those international events are unlikely to compete in the Contender events, eliminating any significant scheduling conflicts.
In terms of qualification, teams will have the opportunity to earn spots in the Heritage Series through the Contender events. Huntington Beach will host an on-site qualifier, with four teams securing spots in the main draw. Denver and Waupaca will serve as qualifiers for Manhattan Beach, with the top four teams from each event advancing to the main draw. Virginia Beach will offer a pathway to the season-ending Heritage Series in Chicago, with the top four finishers earning coveted spots in the 16-team draw.
With the addition of the Heritage Series and the revamped Contender events, the 2024 AVP season promises to deliver unparalleled excitement and competition, setting the stage for a thrilling summer of beach volleyball action.
Following the conclusion of the Chicago Heritage Series in September, the AVP will usher in a significant transformation with the introduction of the inaugural AVP League.
The AVP League will feature eight men’s teams and eight women’s teams extending their season to compete in a unique format across eight different cities: Los Angeles, San Diego, Austin, Dallas, Miami, Palm Beach, New York, and Brooklyn. Notably, athletes will not be required to relocate to these cities for training, offering flexibility and convenience. Matches will be held over eight consecutive weekends, with each team competing in four weekends and enjoying four off weeks. Each weekend will consist of a Saturday match and a Sunday match.
At the conclusion of the eight-week League, the top four teams from each gender will advance to the League Championship, scheduled for November 9-10 at a location yet to be determined.
Teams have three potential routes to qualify for the League: winning a Heritage Series event, accruing sufficient points based on their top three finishes from Heritage Series events, or receiving a wild card entry, which the AVP League can award to two teams per gender.
While specific details such as prize money, draft procedures, and franchise coaching assignments are forthcoming, the AVP has promised to release this information in the coming weeks. This innovative addition to the AVP schedule promises to revolutionize beach volleyball competition and provide fans with an exciting new dimension to the sport.
