Yucatan medalists Pedrosa and Campos and Haussener and Friedli reach team highs in World Ranking

Yucatan Medalists Reach Career Highs in World Rankings

The latest FIVB Beach Volleyball World Rankings update reflects significant movement following the Yucatan Challenge in Mexico and the expiration of points from last year’s Recife Challenge in Brazil.

Men’s Rankings Highlights

  • Reigning world champions Ondrej Perusic and David Schweiner of Czechia claimed Yucatan gold and skyrocketed 18 positions to number 24
  • Yves Haussener and Julian Friedli of Switzerland, Yucatan silver medalists, jumped 23 spots to a career-high number 45
  • Joao Pedrosa and Hugo Campos of Portugal, Yucatan bronze medalists, climbed two spots to a career-high number 23
  • Germany’s Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler maintain the top spot
  • Argentina’s Nicolas Capogrosso and Tomas Capogrosso and Chile’s Marco Grimalt and Esteban Grimalt enter the top 10

Women’s Rankings Highlights

  • Teegan Van Gunst and Kimberly Hildreth of the USA gained nine positions to reach joint 17th place, matching Paris 2024 Olympians Taryn Brasher and Kristen Nuss as the highest-ranked American women’s teams
  • Austria’s Dorina Klinger and Ronja Klinger joined the top 10 for the first time following their Yucatan quarterfinal appearance
  • Latvia’s Tina Graudina and Anastasija Samoilova, former world number ones, dropped from second to seventh place after their Recife gold points expired

New Medalists Enter the Rankings

Yucatan women’s winners Valentina Gottardi and Claudia Scampoli of Italy are now ranked 165th. Runners-up Tanja Huberli and Leona Kernen of Switzerland entered at 180, while bronze medalists Devon Newberry and Jaden Whitmarsh of the United States are up to 105th after making the podium at all three of their Beach Pro Tour appearances.

“Many more high-level shake-ups can be expected in the weeks to come, with as many as six of the current members of the top 10 no longer competing together as pairs.”
