Mid-July 2023 Olympic Rankings – Brazil’s Barbara and Carol Claim Summit, Portugal’s Historic Triumph

Brazil’s dynamic duo, Barbara and Carol, continue their stellar run, clinching their second consecutive gold medal at the Edmonton Challenge and cementing their position as the new leaders in the Olympic rankings. With three consecutive victories, including the South American Continental Championships, they now sit atop the rankings, leading Brazil’s dominance with three teams in the top four.

Meanwhile, Portugal celebrates a historic triumph as Hugo Campos and Joao Pedrosa secured the nation’s first international gold medal in 24 years. Despite their remarkable achievement, they remain outside the top 24 in the Olympic rankings, showcasing the depth of talent in the competitive Beach Pro Tour.

In contrast, the USA contingent faced challenges in Edmonton, with only Betsi Flint and Julia Scoles advancing to the quarterfinals before falling to Switzerland’s Zoe Verge-Depre and Esmee Bobner. Several American teams, including Terese Cannon and Sarah Sponcil, Kelley Kolinske and Hailey Harward, and five others, encountered early exits, highlighting the fierce competition on the tour.

The men’s teams encountered similar struggles, with notable names like Tri Bourne and Chaim Schalk, Taylor Crabb and Taylor Sander, and Trevor Crabb and Theo Brunner facing setbacks. Chase Budinger and Miles Evans failed to advance from the pool stage, while several other teams bowed out in the qualifier rounds, underscoring the demanding nature of the competition.
